22 June, Thursday
Today we visited downtown Berlin. Visited the Dom in former East Berlin. Had to get a ticket to take pictures (3DM). It was a church, and Frederick I (first Kaiser of Prussia) - Frederick III were buried there. Lots of reconstruction was going on, particularly in former E Berlin. It is amazing how quickly they are bringing the east side "up to date." There was only a very small portion of the wall left. We visited the Brandenburg gate and saw the Reiztag - partially covered by Christo (that wacko artist) in cloth. The weather was too poor today for him to cover it. Ate a German dinner at a little sit down pub, right before coming to the train station where I am right now. Rob & I each bought four .5 Liter cans of beer to drink before catching the night train to Czech at 11:49pm. We'll sleep well. Also, we visited the museum of terror which told the story of Hitler and the Nazis. Learned about the Gestapo and how everything worked and become out of control. It was a great/educational experience. I have to say, I don't mind leaving Berlin. I kind of wish I could have seen some of the night life. Oh well, maybe next time.
I still have to send these post cards. Oh yea, called Mom & Dad today. Talked for about 20 min. They were happy to hear from us. Tim goes out with friends every night and Bridget's at Basketball camp.
