28 June, Wednesday
On the train headed from Zurich to Interlocken. We will spend 2 nights there, then either Munich or Budapest - we'll see. This morning walked down the Haupt Bahn Srasse - one of the most famous and expensive shopping strips in the world. Bought a pair of sandals (Not Birkenstocks - from Italy) for about $45. They're really comfortable although one of them squeaks a little. Rolex watches are almost $18,000 - that's just crazy. The people sit at cafes on the street and watch people. It's worse than Antwerp because they're all facing the street - no on sits on the other side of the table.
Interlocken is beautiful. The hostle (Balmers) is very unique - quaint and right in the mountains. It's really nice and for only $15.30 a night we have our own rooms and breakfast. Tomorrow we're renting mountain bikes. They cost 30 Swiss Franks/day ($27), but they're Gary Fisher bikes with shocks - they're brand new. Right now it's about 10pm. There are a lot of college kids - it's a big party. Too bad we didn't get beer. In the yard there's hammocks, table tennis, and even a giant chess board. You have to walk the pieces around the board. Right now Matt & J are getting their heads shaved. It should be pretty entertaining tomorrow. We have to get up around 6:30 or 7am to get a bike tomorrow, so I think it will be an early night.
29 June, Thursday
Went mountain biking in the Swiss Alps. It was incredible (including my sore ass). Got some great pictures. It took a few hours to get to the top. Hopped on a gondola for part of it, then rode down. Matt & Ted were involved in a 3 bike pileup. We were almost in the snow (across the valley from us). The scenery was beautiful - mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, river. It was around 75 so we weren't wearing shirts. Got a great tan.
Tomorrow: Paragliding. I can't wait. I saw some skydivers today while walking my bike up part of the mountain. It looked like such a thrill & like it would be so wonderful.
